Reflexology Background
Reflexology is a non-invasive healing art that has its history traced back to Ancient Egypt, India and China thousands of years ago. It wasn’t until 1913 that Dr William Fitzgerald introduced this therapy to the West as ‘zone therapy’. He noted that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone. In the 1930’s Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory into what is now known as reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body. Reflexology is a complementary therapy, which works on the feet to help heal the whole person not just the prevailing symptoms.

Reflexology is basically a practical skill, not an academic subject and it is more important for students to have a genuine sensitivity and caring for others, and good listening skills. However, since the practice of Reflexology involves many aspects of human health and well-being, knowledge of human biology, anatomy, and physiology are required in order for the reflexologist to maximize his/her potential as a professional Reflexologist.
At MTC, our program does include integrated biology, anatomy and physiology and other areas of study, and requires the students to successfully complete and pass written examinations as well as practical assessments in order to become qualified.
What to expect
Training to become a professional Reflexologist at MTC is demanding and we try our best to provide our students with a well-rounded approach to prepare for real-world works.
Students who do not have a background in human biology, anatomy and physiology have to take module 1 and module 2 to become qualified and earn their Diploma.
Students who are practicing health care professionals can take only module 2 to become qualified for their Diploma (subjecting to permission granted by MTC).
